Do I Need to Move Furniture Outside for Removal?
Do I Need to Move Furniture Outside for Removal?
Last updated: October 2026
No. We remove it from inside your home, so you don't need to move anything outside yourself.
That's the whole point of calling us, and it's the part of the job most people are happiest to hand off, because nobody wants to spend a Saturday morning wrestling a sleeper sofa down a narrow staircase with a friend who said they'd help for an hour. If you could easily carry an old dresser down two flights of stairs and out to the alley, you probably would have done it already. The heavy lifting is the part we're here for.
Why it matters
Your back. Old furniture is often heavier than it looks, especially solid wood pieces and sleeper sofas.
Your home. Dragging a dresser down the stairs yourself is how walls get scraped and floors get gouged. When we carry it out, floors, door frames, and stairs get protected along the way.
The weather. Furniture left in the alley for days before a pickup can get rained on or picked through.
Your time. You point at what's going. We do the rest.
How in-home removal works
Show us what's going. Walk the crew through the rooms, or tag the items ahead of time.
We carry it out. From the basement, the bedroom, the attic, or wherever it is.
We take it apart if needed. If a piece won't fit through the door or down the stairs, we take it apart to get it out. Read can you remove oversized furniture like sectional sofas or sleeper sofas.
We load it up. And it's gone.
Already moved it outside?
That's fine too. If you've already put furniture out by the alley or the curb, we can pick it up there. Tell us the address, the item, and when it'll be out. Read can you pick up furniture from the alley or curb.
What we take
Furniture and appliances. Mattresses and electronics. Almost everything else in your home. What we don't take is hazardous materials and construction or demolition debris. Read what does junk removal take.
Before we arrive
Empty the drawers. Dressers, desks, and cabinets should be empty.
Clear a path. Move smaller things out of the way so the crew can get through.
Separate what's staying. Make sure nothing you want to keep is mixed in with what's going.
Mention the stairs. If the furniture is in a basement or upstairs, tell us when you call.
Where it goes
Usable furniture goes to local donation centers, and the rest goes to the junk yard. Read can usable items be donated instead of dumped.
How it's priced
Junk removal is priced per item, quoted up front so there are no surprises once the truck is loaded. Read how is junk removal priced.
How fast we can come
Two weeks' notice is ideal, but we also do same-day junk removal. Read how fast can you schedule a junk pickup.
In-home removal is covered on our furniture removal service page, under our junk removal services alongside moving.
Call (773) 275-4100 or email info@wcmoving.com, and tell us where the furniture is.
