Can I Really Book Movers for Today?

Can I Really Book Movers for Today?

Last updated: October 2026

Often, yes.

If you're reading this with a deadline in a few hours, here's the fastest version. Call (773) 275-4100. You'll get a direct answer, not a callback queue. During business hours, same-day moves are often possible, depending on availability.

If you have a minute more, here's how it works.

Why same-day is possible

Life doesn't always give notice. A lease falls through. A closing moves up. A roommate situation ends overnight. Our last-minute crews exist for exactly those days.

Being based in the city helps. Our home base is on Elston Avenue in Jefferson Park, so the drive to most Chicago neighborhoods is short. When a crew frees up, it can get to you fast.

We move seven days a week, Sundays included, and every holiday except Christmas and New Year's. So same-day on a Sunday is often possible too.

It doesn't cost more

There's no surcharge for short notice. Your price is built from the same things as any move. That's the size of the move, the stairs, the distance, and any packing. Booking at 9 a.m. for that afternoon doesn't change the rate.

What to have ready when you call

Five minutes of information gets you an accurate quote. Have these ready.

• Both addresses
• The floor at each end, and whether there's an elevator
• A rough list of what's moving
• When the crew can get in

That's enough for us to tell you whether we can make it today, and what it will take.

If today doesn't work

Sometimes every crew is already out. If we can't make it today, we'll tell you right away instead of leaving you waiting on a maybe. Then we'll give you the earliest time we can do, so you can decide quickly. That way you can line up another option while there's still time in the day.

Smaller moves fit easiest

A studio, a few rooms, or a single heavy piece is the easiest kind of move to fit in on short notice. Most small moves wrap up in two to three hours door to door. Our mini moving service covers them.

Bigger moves can happen same-day too. They just depend more on who's free.

Not packed yet?

It happens. Packing can be added to any move, including a last-minute one, and packing materials are charged separately. Call (773) 275-4100 to check what's possible for your date.

Building paperwork, fast

If your building needs a certificate of insurance, that's not a dead end on a same-day move. We send COIs for free, usually the same day the building sends its requirements.

Real last-minute moves

Want to see how it goes? Read about a Lake View move that was booked fast and ran like normal, or a rainy-day Logan Square move.

One more thing

When your move is happening in hours, keep the important things with you. IDs, medications, chargers, and keys shouldn't ride on the truck. Our post on what to keep with you on moving day has the full list.

Same-day moves live under our last-minute moving service, one of our moving services.
