Can You Remove Sectional Sofas or Sleeper Sofas?
Last updated: October 2026
Yes, including sectionals and sleeper sofas. If a piece won't fit through the door, we take it apart to get it out.
Oversized furniture is one of the most common reasons people call for removal. A sectional that came in through a wide door years ago won't go back out through a narrower one. A sleeper sofa is far heavier than a regular couch because of the folding frame inside. And in Chicago, getting big furniture out is often harder than getting it in. So many homes here are walk-ups and two-flats with tight stairwells.
Why it's hard to do yourself
Taking apart a big piece of furniture isn't just about having a screwdriver. Sectionals hide their connectors underneath, sleeper frames are heavy and pinch fingers, and wall units are often held together with hardware that's been painted over or stripped years ago. It's slow, frustrating work if you've never done it, and it's easy to damage a wall or a floor along the way.
Sectional sofas
Most sectionals come apart into their individual pieces. The sections unhook or unbolt, and each piece goes out on its own. That alone usually solves the problem. If a single section is still too big, we look at the legs, the arms, or any other parts that come off.

Keeping the furniture instead?
