Room-by-Room Method

We load by room and label by room, which means we unload by room — beds rebuilt in bedrooms, kitchen boxes in the kitchen, garage chaos contained to the garage. The new house is livable the first night. The method matters more in houses than apartments because the spatial map is bigger: a misplaced box in a 600-square-foot studio is annoying, in a 3,000-square-foot house it's a search-and-rescue. Every box is labeled to its destination room, and the truck is stacked to unload in reverse priority — bedrooms first, garage last.

Single-Story, Two-Story, and Tri-Level Homes

Two-story homes add an obvious variable — every piece moves twice as far on the way out. We staff for it: typically one extra crew member to keep the stair flow constant. Tri-levels and split-levels are their own challenge, particularly older Chicago designs with awkward landings; we walk the staircases on the quote visit when access looks tricky. Ranches and single-stories are usually our fastest house moves — no stairs, easier truck staging, and the work concentrates at the front door.

Packing for a House Move

Most families split the packing. You handle clothes, books, personal items, and anything you'd rather pack yourself. We pack the kitchen — where breakables, mismatched plates, and one wedding-china set from 1997 all need real care — plus closets, fragiles, art, mirrors, and lamps. Full-service packing is available start to finish if you'd rather hand the whole thing over. Both options come with materials included; you don't buy boxes separately.

The Heavy and the Delicate

Houses hold the hard stuff: pianos, safes, antiques, oversized sectionals. Each has its own specialty handling — and its own page on this site — and all of it folds into one coordinated house move. We schedule the specialty pieces into the day's plan so the piano crew arrives when the piano is ready to leave, and so the safe doesn't sit in a half-loaded truck waiting on a master bedroom. Coordination is part of the job.

Three-bedroom local moves start as low as $675 and four-or-more-bedroom moves at $810; the exact number is built from your house, not a category. A bungalow with a finished attic prices differently than a 4-bedroom new build with an empty basement, even if both list as "4-bedroom." We quote in writing after a walkthrough or detailed phone conversation. No deposit to book, and the number doesn't change with the season.

Move-In Day at the New House

We unload the same way we loaded — by room, beds and dressers first, oversized furniture placed and reassembled, boxes stacked along walls so the rooms are usable. If you've chosen full packing, unpacking is available too: kitchens unpacked, beds made, art hung from existing hooks. The goal is the same one the intro states — the move is finished when the house is livable, not when the truck is empty.
