Is the Storage Climate-Controlled?
Is the Storage Climate-Controlled?
Last updated: October 2026
Yes. Our storage is climate-controlled for temperature and humidity both. Furniture is blanket-wrapped before it's stored, and the facility has security cameras.
In Chicago, that matters. The city swings from furnace-dry winters to thick, humid summers. A storage space that bakes in July and freezes in January is hard on almost everything you own. Wood and leather suffer. So do fabric, electronics, and paper. Managing both temperature and humidity protects your things from those swings.
Why both matter
Temperature. Extreme heat and cold can warp wood, crack finishes, and damage electronics.
Humidity. Damp air can bring mildew and swell wooden furniture. Very dry air can crack it.
Controlling only one isn't enough. A space that stays warm but humid can still grow mildew on a sofa, and a space that stays dry but swings from hot to cold can still open up cracks in the finish of a dining table that has been in your family for decades.
How your things are protected
Blanket-wrapped. Furniture is padded and wrapped at pickup and stays protected through delivery.
Inventoried. Each item is inventoried, so there's a record of what went in.
Cameras. The facility has security cameras.
What benefits most
Wood furniture. Dressers, tables, and antiques.
Pianos. Swings in temperature or humidity are what crack soundboards and wreck tuning. Read can you store my piano between homes.
Upholstered pieces. Sofas, chairs, and mattresses.
Electronics. TVs and computers.
Art and photos. Anything on paper or canvas.
How our storage works
We pick your things up, keep them in our storage, and deliver them to your new place when you're ready. You don't rent a truck or carry anything to a unit. Our storage isn't open for visits, so plan what you'll need before it goes in. Read can I access the piano while it's in storage, since the same rule applies to everything we store.
Compared to a basement or garage
A lot of people's first idea is to stash furniture in a relative's garage or an unfinished basement for a few months. It's free, and it's close. But garages in Chicago freeze in winter and bake in summer, and basements can be damp, especially after a heavy spring rain. Furniture that sits through one season in either place can come out warped, musty, or worse. Managed storage costs something, but it protects the things that would cost far more to replace.
How long, and how it's billed
Most storage covers the days or weeks between a move-out and a move-in, but you can store for months. Storage is billed monthly, or daily for short-term storage, and the minimum is one day.
Preparing your things
Our guide on preparing belongings for storage covers what to do before pickup. If you're storing during a renovation, read our renovation storage guide.

Every move includes our standard coverage, which is based on weight. For valuable items, you can buy full coverage insurance through us or through your own insurer.
