How Far in Advance Should We Book a White Glove Move
How Far in Advance Should We Book a White Glove Move?
Last updated: October 2026
Four to eight weeks is comfortable.
In peak season, May through September, white glove dates go faster. Six weeks or more is safer then. Shorter windows are workable, but calling early is just easier for everyone.
That's more lead time than we'd suggest for a standard move. Here's why.
White glove is more than one day
A standard move is usually one day. You pack, we load and unload. A white glove move covers everything. We handle every step from packing the first box to arranging the last chair, and when we leave you can start living in your new place.
That's often several days of work, and on a white glove move, the same lead and core crew handle pack day and move day. Keeping the same people across every day means their whole schedule has to line up with yours. That's easier to do with more notice. Our post on keeping the same crew for pack day and move day explains why it's worth it.
There's planning before the first box
White glove moves usually involve more than furniture. Art and antiques may need custom crates, which we build ourselves, and so may glass. A high-rise may need a certificate of insurance and a reserved move window. Pieces may be heading to more than one address.
Each of those takes a little time to plan. More lead time means none of it gets rushed.
Peak season fills first
Summer in Chicago is busy for everyone. From May through September, the first and last weekends of each month book out first, because that's when leases turn over. If your white glove move lands in summer, aim for six weeks or more. Summer moves stack up against closings and school calendars, so calling in March for a July move gives you the best shot at the exact dates you want instead of whatever is still open. Plan ahead.
Booking early costs nothing
There's no deposit to book. If your closing date shifts after you book, rescheduling is free. And our pricing stays the same all year, so booking early just secures the date. Our post on rescheduling a move explains how that works.
What to have ready when you call
The more we know up front, the better the plan.
The dates. Your move-out date, and when you can get into the new place.
The buildings. Any rules at either end, like move windows or a COI.
The special pieces. Art, antiques, pianos, or anything else that needs extra care.
The stops. If anything is going to storage, to family, or to donation.
If you're short on time
Shorter windows are workable. If your move is three weeks out, call anyway. We'll tell you straight away what we can do.
