Can Part of a Winnetka Move Go to Storage or Family?
Can Part of a Winnetka Move Go to Storage or Family?
Last updated: October 2026
Routinely. Estate moves often split three ways. Some pieces go to the new home, some go to family, and some go into storage.
It's one of the most common patterns in Winnetka. A parent is downsizing from a large family home. Some furniture goes to the new condo. The dining set goes to a daughter in Lake Forest. The piano goes to a grandson in the city. And a few pieces nobody has decided on yet go into storage while the family figures it out. One origin, several destinations. It's more common than you'd think, and it's one of the reasons estate moves on the North Shore take more planning than a typical family move, since every stop adds its own address and its own person waiting at the door.
How we plan a split move
Start with a list. Go room by room and mark where each piece is going. Is it the new home or a family member? Storage, donation, or junk?
Label everything. Every piece and every box gets marked with its destination. Color-coded tape or stickers work well.
Plan the route. We load the truck so the deliveries come off in the right order.
Confirm the addresses. Including stairs, parking, and who will be there to receive.
Deliveries to family
We can deliver to as many addresses as you need. Each family member just needs to be ready to receive their pieces. Read delivering items to family or donation during a senior move.
Storage for the undecided
Some pieces don't have a home yet. That's normal, and it's often the hardest part of an estate, because deciding who gets a grandmother's china cabinet can take a family months of conversations. We pick them up, keep them in our storage, and deliver them when you're ready. Storage is billed monthly, or daily for short-term storage, with a one-day minimum. Read how does pricing work for a move with storage.
Donation and junk
Pieces that aren't going anywhere in the family can go to donation or the junk yard. Usable items go to local donation centers, and the rest goes to the junk yard. Read can usable items be donated instead of dumped.
Valuable pieces
Estate moves often include art, antiques, and heirlooms. For oversized or high-value pieces, we build custom crates ourselves. If an appraiser or an auction house is involved, read can you work with an antique appraiser or auction house.
Working with everyone involved
Split moves often involve several people. Family members, an estate attorney, a realtor. We work with any customer. Read can you work directly with an executor, attorney, or realtor.
Taking more than one day
A split move with several stops can take more than one day. Read can a large Winnetka home move take more than one day.
Pricing
Split moves are hourly, like our other moves. More stops mean more time. Storage is billed separately. Read how much does a senior move cost.
