When Does the Lakeview Moving Season Peak?
When Does the Lakeview Moving Season Peak?
Last updated: October 2026
May through September, pegged to lease turnovers. The first and last weekends of each month book out first.
Lake View is a renter's neighborhood, and renters move when leases end. Every year. In Chicago, a lot of leases end in the warmer months, which means a big share of Lakeview moves land between May and September. And because leases usually end on the last day of the month and start on the first, the weekends around month-end are the busiest of all.
Why May through September
Lease timing. Many Chicago leases turn over in the warmer months.
Weather. Nobody wants to carry a sofa down three flights in a snowstorm.
School schedules. Families time moves around summer break.
Graduations and new jobs. People finish school and start new roles in the summer.
Why month-end weekends go first
It's simple math, and it shows up on the calendar every single summer, when the same handful of Saturdays at the end of each summer month fill up weeks before any of the dates in the middle.
When one lease ends on the 31st and the next starts on the 1st, a lot of people need to move on the same few days. Weekends are the most popular, because people don't have to take time off work. So the first and last weekends of each month book out first, especially in summer.
How to get the date you want
Book early. For a summer month-end weekend, book well ahead.
Be flexible. A weekday, or a mid-month date, often has more openings.
Negotiate your lease dates. If you can overlap your old and new leases by a day or two, you can move on a less busy day.
Use storage for gaps. If the dates don't line up, we can hold your things in our storage. Read how does pricing work for a move with storage.
Our pricing doesn't change
Busy season fills the calendar faster, but our pricing stays the same all year. A move in July costs the same per hour as a move in January. The only difference is how quickly dates go.
