Should I Avoid Moving on a Cubs Game Day?
Should I Avoid Moving on a Cubs Game Day?
Last updated: October 2026
If you're within about half a mile of Wrigley, yes, or let us schedule around first pitch. We check the home schedule for every Wrigleyville booking.
Game days in Wrigleyville are a lot of fun. They're also crowded. Very crowded. Streets fill with fans, traffic slows down, parking disappears, and some streets near the ballpark get busy hours before the game starts. A moving truck trying to load or unload in the middle of all that loses time, and on an hourly move, lost time costs you.
Why game days matter
Parking. Curb space near the ballpark is hard to find on game days.
Traffic. Getting a truck in and out of the neighborhood takes longer.
Foot traffic. Crowded sidewalks slow down every trip from the door to the truck.
Street restrictions. Some streets near the park have extra rules on game days.
How we handle it
We check the home schedule. For every Wrigleyville booking, we look at the Cubs' home schedule before setting the date.
We schedule around first pitch. If game day is your only option, we can plan the move to finish well before the crowds arrive, or start after things calm down.
We suggest a better day. If there's flexibility, a non-game day is usually the easiest choice, and on most weeks of the season there's an off day or a road trip close enough to your preferred date to make it work.
Half a mile is the rule of thumb
If you live within about half a mile of Wrigley Field, game days are worth avoiding or planning around. Farther away, the effect fades quickly, and most Lake View moves aren't affected at all.
Other things to plan for in Lake View
Parking permits. Most Lakeview moves need them. CDOT permits with posted no-parking signs are standard. Read do I need a parking permit to move in Chicago.
Walk-ups. Lake View is full of three-flats and walk-ups. Read what's involved in a third-floor walk-up apartment move and moving into a Lakeview 3-flat.
Peak season. May through September is the busiest time. Read when does the Lakeview moving season peak.
Concerts and other events
Wrigley hosts more than baseball. Concerts and other big events can fill the neighborhood too. If you're moving near the park, check the event calendar as well as the Cubs schedule.
The off-season
Outside baseball season, game days aren't a factor. But winter brings its own rules, like Chicago's overnight parking ban on main streets. Read does Chicago's winter overnight parking ban affect a Logan Square move, since the same rule applies across the city.
Pricing
Lake View moves are hourly, with a 2-hour minimum. Our pricing doesn't change with the season, so a game-day move costs the same per hour. Planning around the game just keeps the hours down.
