What Happens to Appliances After You Remove Them?
Last updated: October 2026
Working appliances go to local donation centers when they can be reused. The rest go to the junk yard.
A lot of appliances get replaced long before they stop working. You remodel the kitchen and the old fridge doesn't match. You upgrade the washer and dryer to a stacked set. You move into a house that already has appliances, and yours aren't needed anymore. A working appliance that's simply been replaced can still be useful to someone else, maybe a family setting up their first apartment or a household whose own fridge just gave out in the middle of a hot July week. It matters.
Working appliances
When an appliance still works, it can go to a local donation center to be reused. A clean fridge that keeps cold, a washer that still spins, or a stove where every burner lights has a real chance of finding a second home.
Tell us when you call which appliances still work. It helps us plan where each one goes, and it means the working ones can head to a donation center on the same trip instead of all of it ending up in the same place.
