What Does Piano Disposal Cost?
What Does Piano Disposal Cost?
Last updated: October 2026
It depends on the piano and the access, so we give you an estimate before the pickup.
That might sound like a non-answer, but think about the difference between two jobs. A small spinet sitting by the front door of a ranch house. A full upright at the bottom of a narrow basement staircase in a Chicago bungalow. Both are "piano removal." One is a lot more work than the other.
What goes into the estimate
The piano. Is it a spinet or a console? An upright or a grand? The type and size matter.
Where it is. The floor, the room, and how far it is from the door.
The stairs. How many steps, how wide, and whether they turn.
The path out. Doorways, tight hallways, and anything else between the piano and the truck.
Whether it needs a hoist. If the piano can't take the stairs, it may need to come out through a window or over a balcony.
With those details, we can give you an estimate before the pickup. No surprises on the day.
Why access matters so much
A piano is heavy, and most of the work in a removal happens getting it out of the house, which is why the same piano can be a quick job in one home and a slow, step-by-step job in another. The piano is the same. The house isn't. Our piano crew handles basements, upper floors, and walk-ups, the same way it does for a piano move. Read can you pick up a piano for disposal from a basement, second floor, or walk-up.
If a hoist is needed, it's planned into the estimate. Read how much does hoisting cost.
Where the piano goes
Pianos that can still be used go to a local donation center. The rest go to the junk yard. You'll get a receipt and an invoice for a donation pickup. Read what happens to an old piano after you pick it up.
Making it simpler
Combine it with a move. If you're moving anyway, the piano removal can be part of the same job.
Combine it with a delivery. If a new piano is coming, we can remove the old one and deliver the new one on the same day. Read can you pick up the old piano and deliver a new one on the same day.
Clear the path. The less time the crew spends moving furniture out of the way, the better.
Clearing out more?
If the piano is part of a bigger cleanout, our junk removal service handles the rest. For estate cleanouts, we remove almost everything except construction and demolition debris.
How to get an estimate
Send us a photo of the piano and a photo of the path out. Tell us the floor and the stairs. We'll give you an estimate before the pickup.
Disposal pricing is covered on our piano disposal service page, under our piano moving hub and our moving services.
Call (773) 275-4100 or email info@wcmoving.com with a photo of the piano.
