Can You Deliver Bulky Furniture From a Store or Seller?
Last updated: October 2026
Yes. When you call, tell us where to pick it up and where it's going. Then tell us what the item is and which floor it's on at each end.
You found the perfect sofa. Maybe it's at a store that charges a lot for delivery or can't deliver for weeks. Maybe it's a vintage dresser from a private seller across town, and the seller isn't helping you carry it down three flights. Either way, you need it picked up and brought home. We do that.
What to tell us
The pickup address. The store, the warehouse, or the seller's home.
The delivery address. Where it's going.
The item. What it is, roughly how big, and roughly how heavy.
The floor levels at both ends. Which floor it's on now, which floor it's going to, and whether there are stairs or an elevator.
That's what we need to plan the crew and the truck, and it's usually enough for us to tell you on the same call how many movers the job needs and roughly how long it should take.
Buying from a private seller
Online marketplace finds are some of the trickiest pickups. The seller's home might be a walk-up with a narrow staircase. The piece might be bigger than it looked in the photos. A few tips help.
Ask for measurements. Before you buy, get the height, width, and depth.
Ask about the path. Which floor is it on? Is there an elevator?
Confirm the pickup time. Make sure the seller will be home when we arrive.
Pay the seller first. Settle up before moving day so the pickup is just a pickup.
Buying from a store
Store pickups are usually simpler. Have your receipt or order number ready, and check whether the store has a loading dock or pickup area. If the piece comes flat-packed or needs assembly, we can put it together at your place. Assembly and disassembly are always included in our hourly rate.
Getting it into your home
The delivery end is where most of the work happens. A big piece going up to a walk-up or around a tight corner needs the right plan. If it comes apart, we take it apart. If it won't fit through the door at all, our hoisting and crane service can bring it in through a window or over a balcony. Read what if my furniture doesn't fit through the door.
Moving blankets pad the piece for free during the trip, and your floors and door frames get protected at the delivery end.
Picking up more than one piece?
If you're collecting a few pieces from different places, tell us all the stops. We can pick them up in one trip. Read can you move just one piece of furniture and how much does a small move cost in Chicago.
Pricing
Furniture delivery is hourly, like every job, with a 2-hour minimum. Moving companies in the Chicago area charge at least one hour for travel.
Store and seller pickups are part of our bulky furniture moving service, one of our moving services.
Call (773) 275-4100 or email info@wcmoving.com with both addresses.
