How Soon Can You Schedule an Estate Cleanout?
Last updated: October 2026
Two weeks' notice is ideal, but we also do same-day junk removal.
Estate cleanouts usually come with a deadline. A closing date. A listing date. A lease ending at the end of the month. An attorney waiting on the house to be empty before the estate can move forward. The timeline often isn't up to you, and it rarely feels like enough time, especially when you're grieving and traveling back and forth from another city and trying to make dozens of decisions about a home full of memories in just a few short weeks.
Why two weeks is ideal
Two weeks gives the family time to do the hard part first. Going through the house. Deciding what to keep. Finding the important papers. Setting aside the pieces that are going to family members. When the cleanout comes after all of that, it goes faster and nothing gets lost by accident.
It also gives you the best choice of dates. That helps.
When the timeline is tight
Sometimes there's no time to wait. It happens. The closing got moved up, or the family only has one weekend in town. We also do same-day junk removal. Call as early as you can and tell us what's going. We'll tell you what we can do.
Planning backward from your deadline
Know the hard date. The closing, the listing, or the lease end.
Give the family a window. Time to walk through the home and set aside what's staying.
Book the cleanout. Two weeks before the deadline is ideal.
Leave room for cleaning. If the house needs to be cleaned or staged after the cleanout, leave time for that too.
Coordinating with the people involved
Executors, attorneys, and realtors often have their own timelines. We work with any customer, and we work with realtors and other household service providers regularly. Read can you work directly with an executor, attorney, or realtor.
If the house is being staged after the cleanout, read do you work with home stagers and other service providers.
Before the cleanout day
Take what the family wants. Photos, papers, heirlooms, and keepsakes.
Find important documents. Wills, deeds, and financial records.
Share photos with us. Especially if you're coordinating from out of town.
Settle access. Make sure we know how to get in on the day.
Moving pieces at the same time?
If some furniture is going to family or to a new home instead of being removed, we can move it in the same window. Read can a senior move be spread over several days for how multi-day jobs work.
Where everything goes
Usable items go to local donation centers, and the rest goes to the junk yard. Read where do the items from an estate cleanout go.
How it's priced
Like all our junk removal, estate cleanouts are priced per item, quoted up front. Read how is an estate cleanout priced.
Scheduling is covered on our estate cleanout service page, under our junk removal services alongside moving.
