Do Logan Square Two-Flat Moves Need Anything Special?
Do Logan Square Two-Flat Moves Need Anything Special?

Mostly courtesy and timing. Shared stairwells mean coordinating with neighbors. We pad the shared rails and keep the route clear.
Two-flats are one of the most common building types in Logan Square. Two units stacked on top of each other, often with a shared front entrance, a shared stairwell, and a shared back porch. Moving in or out of one is a lot like moving in a house, except someone else lives on the other floor. That changes how the day goes. A little.
Coordinating with neighbors
Your neighbor uses the same stairs, and for a few hours on moving day those stairs belong mostly to the crew, which can be a surprise if nobody mentioned it the week before. On moving day, those stairs are full of boxes and furniture for a few hours. A little notice goes a long way.
Tell them the date. And roughly how long the move will take.
Ask about their schedule. If they have something important that day, you might pick a different time.
Keep the hallway clear. So they can still get in and out.
Padding the shared rails
Shared stairwells have shared banisters, often original wood. The crew pads them before anything moves. Floors, door frames, and stairs get protected on every move, at no charge. It's your neighbor's building too, and it gets the same care as yours.
Keeping the route clear
The crew keeps the path from your door to the truck clear and organized, so your neighbor isn't climbing over boxes. Nothing gets stacked in front of their door.
Upper-floor units
If you're in the upper unit, your move is a walk-up move. On walk-ups, we bring lift straps, shoulder dollies, and three or more movers. Read what's involved in a third-floor walk-up apartment move.
If a piece won't make the turn, we take it apart if it comes apart, and assembly and disassembly are always included in our hourly rate. If it won't come apart, our hoisting and crane service can bring it down through a window.
Back porches and alleys
Many two-flats have back porches and alley access. Sometimes the back stairs and the alley are the better route. Tell us about yours when you call.
Parking
Many Logan Square side streets need parking permits for a move. Boulevard addresses often don't. Read do I need a parking permit to move in Chicago.
Basements
Many two-flats have shared or private basement storage. Don't forget to empty yours, and tell us what's down there.
Winter
If your two-flat is on a main street, Chicago's winter overnight parking ban may matter. Read does Chicago's winter parking ban affect a Logan Square move.
Pricing
Two-flat moves are hourly, with a 2-hour minimum. Moving companies in the Chicago area charge at least one hour for travel. Our pricing doesn't change with the season.

Two-flat moves are covered on our Logan Square movers page and our apartment moving service, part of our moving services.
