Can You Move Our Office Over a Weekend?
Can You Move Our Office Over a Weekend?
Last updated: October 2026
Yes. It's the most common thing businesses ask us for.
Close Friday at 5. Open Monday at 9. That's a schedule we build around regularly, and it's the reason a lot of companies move on a weekend in the first place. Nobody loses a workday, and on Monday the only thing your team has to figure out is where the new coffee machine went.
Here's how a weekend office move works with Windy City Movers.
It costs the same on a Saturday
Commercial moves are hourly, just like our residential ones. And our pricing doesn't change through the whole year. Weekends cost what weekdays cost. After-hours work costs what daytime work costs. Picking a weekend to protect your business days doesn't come with a markup.
We work seven days a week, every day except Christmas and New Year's.
It starts with a visual estimate
A weekend move only works if the plan is right before Friday. So we usually send someone to your office to see it in person. We look at what's moving, how the building is laid out, and how the crew will get from your suite to the truck. If you'd rather, we can do the estimate online by video, or over the phone.
That visit is where the weekend gets planned. How big a crew. How the furniture comes apart. What goes on the truck last so it can come off first at the new space.
The paperwork gets done early
Office buildings usually want a certificate of insurance before a moving crew walks in. We provide COIs for both buildings, the one you're leaving and the one you're moving into, before move day. If the building or the management company needs to be named as additional insured, we can do that too. Our post on COIs for commercial buildings covers what to ask your property manager for.
Your furniture comes apart and goes back together
Desks, cubicles, conference tables, and workstations get taken apart for the move and reassembled at the new office. That's always included in the hourly rate. Before anything comes apart, the crew takes pictures and has you check it in person, so there's a clear record of how it all looked.
Your IT team handles the cables
We move the hardware. Workstations, monitors, and server racks get padded and wrapped for the trip. Your IT team or vendor handles disconnecting everything on Friday and reconnecting it before Monday. Book their time early so the hand-off on both ends is planned.
Getting rid of what isn't coming
Most offices find furniture they don't want to bring. Old desks, a spare filing cabinet, the chairs from the last remodel. We remove office furniture too, so the old space can be left empty. Our furniture removal service handles it.
Moving in the suburbs
Weekend office moves happen all over Chicagoland, not just downtown. In Oak Brook, for example, it's the standard request. Our Oak Brook movers page covers that market.
