Can You Handle Oversized Custom Furniture in Inverness?
Last updated: October 2026
Yes. Large sectionals and custom pieces are standard fare in Inverness inventories, with hoisting available when a piece outgrows its staircase.
Big custom homes tend to hold big furniture. A sectional built to fill a great room. A dining table that seats twelve. A custom entertainment wall, a king-size bed with a carved headboard, or a piece made specifically for one corner of one room. Those pieces are often the ones people love most, and the ones that are hardest to move. Size is the problem.
Taking it apart
Many large pieces come apart, often more easily than people expect, once someone who has done it many times finds the hidden bolts and brackets that hold the sections together underneath. Sectionals split into sections. Tables lose their legs and leaves. Beds break down into headboards, footboards, and rails. Entertainment units separate into modules. Assembly and disassembly are always included in our hourly rate, at both ends of the move.
We take pictures and have you check everything in person, so there's a clear record. Read how do I know nothing goes missing during disassembly.
When it won't come apart
Some custom pieces don't come apart. That's okay. A solid piece built in one unit. A piece too big for the stairs even in sections. When the staircase won't work, the window or balcony often will. Our hoisting and crane service lifts large pieces in or out from the outside. Read is hoisting safe for the furniture.
If a piece truly won't work any way, we tell you before move day, not after. Read what if my furniture doesn't fit through the door.
Protecting custom pieces
Moving blankets. Free during every move, to pad and protect furniture.
Shrink wrap. To keep upholstery and finishes clean.
Custom crates. For oversized, glass-faced, or high-value pieces, we build custom crates ourselves.
Floors, door frames, and stairs get protected along the path.
Planning for the new house
This step matters.
A piece that fits in your current home might not fit in the new one. Measure the doorways, the stairs, and the room where the piece is going. If you're not sure, tell us and we'll look at it during the walkthrough. Read why does the walkthrough matter so much in Inverness.
How heavy can it be?
People ask.
We've moved pieces like a tall, thin concrete sculpture weighing almost 800 lbs, custom-crated for the trip. Read what's the heaviest furniture you can move.
Coverage
Every move includes our standard coverage, which is based on weight. For valuable custom pieces, you can buy full coverage insurance through us or through your own insurer.
Pricing
Inverness moves are hourly, with a 2-hour minimum. Disassembly and reassembly are included. If a piece needs hoisting, that's planned into the estimate up front. Read how much does hoisting cost.
Oversized furniture is covered on our Inverness movers page and our bulky furniture moving service, part of our moving services.
