How Do I Know Nothing Goes Missing During Disassembly?
How Do I Know Nothing Goes Missing During Disassembly?
Last updated: October 2026
We take pictures and have you check everything in person, so there's a clear record.
It's a fair worry. When a bed frame or a wardrobe comes apart, it turns into a pile of panels and rails. Then come the bolts and brackets. If one small part goes missing, the piece might not go back together right. So we don't rely on memory. We rely on pictures and on you.
Pictures before anything comes apart
Before we take a piece apart, we photograph it. The finished piece, and the details that matter for putting it back together. Those pictures are the record of how the piece looked and how it was built.
At your new place, the pictures guide the rebuild. They also mean there's no argument about what the piece looked like before the move. It's all there.
You check it in person
Pictures are only half of it. We also have you check everything in person. At the old place, you can see the piece before it comes apart. At the new place, you check the piece once it's back together. If something doesn't look right, you can tell the crew while they're still there to fix it.
That's the clear record. Pictures, plus your own eyes.
It also means you're never left wondering, weeks after the move, whether the wobble in the bed frame was there before or whether something got left behind in the old apartment, because you looked at it yourself while the crew was standing right there.
How you can help
Point out anything unusual. A piece with a tricky mechanism, a custom part, or a repair someone made years ago.
Keep the manuals if you have them. They help.
Be there at both ends. Or have someone you trust there to check the pieces.
Take your own pictures too. If it gives you peace of mind, go for it.
What gets taken apart
Bed frames, cribs, and bunk beds. Dining tables. Desks and office furniture. Wardrobes and armoires. Sectionals that split. Gym equipment. Anything that won't fit through a door in one piece. Assembly and disassembly are always included in our hourly rate on every move.
For gym equipment, the same idea applies. We photograph the setup before teardown so the rebuild matches. Read our home gym moving guide.
Offices too
Office moves often have dozens of desks, workstations, and cubicles coming apart at once. The same approach keeps them organized. Read office furniture and cubicle disassembly.
Coverage
Every move includes our standard coverage, which is based on weight. You can buy full coverage insurance through us or through your own insurer. Read are you licensed and insured.
For more on how disassembly works, read do you disassemble and reassemble furniture.
Pricing
Disassembly is included in the hourly rate on every move. Moves have a 2-hour minimum, and moving companies in the Chicago area charge at least one hour for travel.
Our record-keeping is part of our furniture disassembly service, one of our moving services.
