Can You Assemble New Flat-Pack Furniture?
Can You Assemble New Flat-Pack Furniture?
Last updated: October 2026
Yes. Assembly-only bookings are normal work for us, billed by the hour with our standard 2-hour minimum.
Flat-pack furniture is cheaper to buy and easier to get home. Then you open the box. Dozens of panels, a bag of screws, a little wrench, and a booklet of drawings. A bookcase takes an evening. A wardrobe with sliding doors can take a weekend. A whole apartment of new furniture can take longer than the move did.
You don't need a move to book us for that. Really.
What we assemble
Beds and bed frames. Dressers and nightstands. Wardrobes and closet systems. Bookcases and shelving. Desks and office chairs. Dining tables and chairs. TV stands and media units. If it came in a flat box with instructions, we can put it together.
How an assembly-only booking works
Tell us what you have. The pieces, the brand if you know it, and roughly how many boxes.
Tell us where it goes. Which rooms, and which floor.
We show up and build. The crew assembles each piece and places it where you want it.
The job is billed by the hour, with our standard 2-hour minimum. Moving companies in the Chicago area charge at least one hour for travel. A few pieces may fit inside the minimum. A full apartment of new furniture will take longer.
Why people hand it off
For a lot of people, it's simply time. A full bedroom set or a home office can eat a whole weekend, and most people would rather spend that weekend unpacking, settling in, or doing literally anything other than reading step 47 of a diagram for the third time. Others don't have the tools. Some just don't want to wobble-test a bookcase that's going to hold a lot of weight.
Getting ready
Keep the boxes in the room where the piece goes. It saves carrying the finished piece around.
Clear the floor. Assembly needs space to lay out the panels.
Don't toss the hardware. Keep every small bag and the instructions with their box.
Know the layout. Decide where each piece goes before we arrive.
Moving and assembling together
A lot of people buy new furniture right around a move. You can book assembly as part of your move, too. Assembly and disassembly are always included in our hourly rate on every move, so the crew can build the new pieces while they're already there. Read what's included in a standard residential move.
Pieces bought somewhere else
If the furniture is still at the store or with a seller, we can pick it up, bring it home, and build it in one trip. Read can you deliver bulky furniture from a store or seller.
Taking it apart later
Flat-pack furniture often has to come apart again for the next move. That's part of the job too. Read can I book disassembly or reassembly without a full move, and see our post on how furniture disassembly and reassembly work.
Assembly-only bookings are part of our furniture disassembly service, one of our moving services.
