Can College Students Store Their Stuff Over the Summer?
Can College Students Store Their Stuff Over the Summer?
Last updated: October 2026
Yes. We pick up in June, store your things over the summer, and deliver in August.
For a lot of students, that beats the alternative. The alternative is renting a truck, hauling a mini fridge and a desk back home, finding room for it in your parents' garage, and then hauling it all back to campus three months later. Storage skips both trips. It also skips the awkward summer conversation about why your futon is in the family room, and the August scramble to find a friend with a car big enough to bring it all back before your lease starts. Easier all around.
How summer storage works
It's a pickup, a wait, and a delivery.
Pickup. At the end of the semester, our crew picks up your things from your dorm or apartment.
Storage. Everything stays in our storage over the summer. We handle it, and you don't need to visit. Our storage isn't open for visits, so pack anything you'll need over the summer separately.
Delivery. When your new lease or dorm assignment starts, we deliver to your new place.
If you don't have your fall address yet, that's fine. You can store until you do.
How it's billed
Storage is billed monthly. For short stays, it can be billed daily instead. The minimum is one day, so you pay for the time your things are actually stored.
The pickup and the delivery are priced like any small move, by the hour, with our standard 2-hour minimum.
What to pack and what to keep
Before pickup, pack everything into boxes and label them. Label by room if you're moving into a new apartment in the fall, so the boxes land in the right place on delivery day.
Keep anything you'll need over the summer with you. Laptops, documents, and anything valuable or irreplaceable should travel with you, not into storage. Our post on what to keep with you on moving day has a good list.
Timing it with the school year
End of semester and the start of fall are the busiest weeks of the year for student moves. Lease turnovers around September 1 fill fast too. Book your pickup and your delivery early. Our post on when college students should book movers covers how far ahead.
Splitting it with roommates
If you and your roommates are all storing, you can share one pickup and one delivery and split the cost. Customers can have as many stops as they want. Read how roommates can share a mini move.
Not just for students
The same storage works for anyone whose move-out and move-in dates don't line up. Our storage service covers how it works, and our post on whether we offer storage solutions answers the common questions.
Summer storage is part of our college moving service, one of our moving services.
