Can a Moving Truck Park on a Naperville Street Overnight?
Can a Moving Truck Park on a Naperville Street Overnight?
Last updated: October 2026
No. Naperville's city code bans parking any vehicle on city streets between 2 and 5 a.m. Police can grant temporary permission, up to three requests per vehicle per month, by calling 630-420-6666 or requesting online. For a multi-day move, plan where the truck will sit overnight.
Most Naperville moves finish in a single day, and the overnight rule never comes up, because the truck is loaded in the morning and empty again before dinner. But big houses, multi-day moves, and moves that run late can all leave a truck needing a place to stay overnight. That's when this rule matters. It's easy to overlook.
When it comes up
Multi-day moves. The truck is loaded on day one, and the drive and unload happen on day two.
Late finishes. A long day that runs into the night, which can happen on a big house move when the last few rooms take longer than expected or the weather slows down the carry from the truck to the front door.
Pack and load on separate days. When the truck stays nearby between days.
Your options
Use the driveway. Many Naperville homes have driveways that can fit a moving truck. If yours does, that's often the easiest answer. Just make sure the drive is long enough and nothing hangs low over it.
Request temporary permission. Call the Naperville police at 630-420-6666 or request online. Permission is limited to three requests per vehicle per month.
Plan the days differently. Sometimes the schedule can be arranged so the truck doesn't sit loaded on the street overnight.
Request early
Timing matters.
Don't wait until the night of the move. Seriously. If you think you'll need overnight street parking, request permission ahead of time so you know it's taken care of.
HOA communities
Many Naperville neighborhoods have homeowners associations, and HOAs often have their own rules about trucks. HOA communities often require advance notice, and we'll remind you to check when you book. Read do I need a permit to park a moving truck in Naperville.

Other towns
Overnight parking rules vary by town. Glenview bans overnight parking on all public streets from 2 to 6 a.m. between December 1 and March 31. Winnetka allows on-street parking from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. unless signs say otherwise. Clarendon Hills prohibits parking on village streets from 2 to 6 a.m. If you're moving between towns, check the rules at both ends. Read can a moving truck stay parked on a Winnetka street overnight.
