Where Do Trucks Park for Sheridan Road Buildings?
Where Do Trucks Park for Sheridan Road Buildings?

Each tower has its quirk. Loading docks, side-street zones, or alley access. We confirm the building's protocol when we book.
Sheridan Road through Edgewater is lined with lakefront high-rises. It's also a busy road, and a moving truck can't just stop in a travel lane. Not safely. Every building handles move trucks a little differently, and knowing the plan ahead of time is what keeps the day running smoothly.
The three common setups
Loading docks. Many towers have a loading dock, usually off a side street or the back of the building. The truck backs in, and the crew uses the freight elevator.
Side-street zones. Some buildings direct moving trucks to a spot on a nearby side street. The crew carries from the truck to the building's move entrance.
Alley access. Some buildings use the alley behind the tower for moves.
Why it matters
The distance from the truck to the freight elevator affects how long the move takes. A loading dock right next to the elevator is fast. A side-street spot half a block away takes longer, because every box and every chair has to make that walk. Over a full apartment, that adds up to a lot of extra trips. Knowing the setup lets us plan the crew and give you an accurate estimate.
How we confirm it
When you book, tell us your building. We'll confirm the building's protocol, including where the truck goes, which entrance to use, and what hours are allowed. If you have a move packet or rules from management, send it our way. It helps.
The freight elevator
Most towers require you to reserve the freight elevator for your move. You arrange that with building management. Ask for a wider window if you can. Two weeks is a safe lead time. Read how far ahead should Edgewater high-rise moves be booked.
The certificate of insurance
Most Sheridan Road buildings want a certificate of insurance before the crew walks in. We provide it before move day. Read when will I receive the COI.
Protecting the building
Floors, door frames, and stairs get protected on every move, at no charge. Lobbies and hallways get the same care as your own home.
When the window is short
If the building gives you a short window, we'll assess the move and give you an accurate estimate. If the window isn't enough, we may recommend more movers or a different date. Read what if my building only allows moves on certain days.
Senior moves
Many Sheridan Road moves are seniors downsizing or moving into a retirement community. Read do you specialize in senior moves in Edgewater.
Other high-rises
Downtown high-rises work the same way. Read our Chicago high-rise moving guide and moving into an Edgewater high-rise, the building rules to know.
Pricing
High-rise moves are hourly, with a 2-hour minimum. Moving companies in the Chicago area charge at least one hour for travel.
Sheridan Road moves are covered on our Edgewater movers page, alongside our moving services.
