Is My Hinsdale Home in a Historic District?
Last updated: October 2026
It may be. The Robbins Park Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. It covers 368 buildings in the heart of the village.
Hinsdale is one of the western suburbs best known for its older homes. Many date from the late 1800s and early 1900s, and a large group of them sits inside this one district. If you're moving into or out of one of them, it helps to know what you're working with.
Where the district is
The Robbins Park Historic District is bounded by four streets.
Chicago Avenue on one side.
8th Street on another.
County Line Road on the east.
Garfield Street on the west.
If your home sits inside those streets, there's a good chance it's part of the district. Check with the village if you're not sure.
What the homes are like
Most of the buildings in the district date from the Late Victorian era. Colonial Revival is the most common style. Homes like these were built with care, and many still have their original details. Carved banisters. Wood floors that are more than a century old. Plaster walls. Narrow staircases with tight landings.
Those details are part of what makes a Hinsdale home special. They're also what makes a move in one more delicate, because a banister that has survived more than a hundred years of family life can be scarred in a second by a dresser corner swinging the wrong way on the landing.
What it means for your move
Older homes like these are where floor, banister, and staircase protection matters most. Floors, banisters, jambs, and corners are protected before anything moves. Original woodwork gets padded. The crew measures turns before carrying anything big. Read can you move antiques down an 1890s staircase.
When a piece won't fit
Older staircases weren't built for today's furniture. A modern sectional or a big wardrobe may not make the turn. If a piece comes apart, we take it apart. If it doesn't, our hoisting and crane service can bring it in through a window or over a balcony. Read what if my furniture doesn't fit through the door.
Antiques in historic homes
Historic homes often hold antiques too. For oversized, glass-faced, or high-value pieces, we build custom crates ourselves. Read our antique furniture moving guide.
White glove in a historic home
White glove isn't required for a Hinsdale move. But for historic homes with fine contents, it's a popular choice. Read is white glove required for a Hinsdale move.
Estate moves
Many historic Hinsdale homes are family homes that have been lived in for decades. Estate moves with deliveries to several addresses are common. Read do you handle Hinsdale estate moves with multiple stops.
