How Do I File a Claim for Damaged or Missing Items?
Damage is rare on our moves, but if something does get damaged or goes missing, you have a clear path to make it right, and you have 90 days from your move date to file. The process is straightforward: tell us, document it, submit the claim, and we review and resolve it with you. Here is each step.
Step 1: Tell us promptly
As soon as you notice a problem, contact our office by phone at (773) 275-4100 or by email at info@wcmoving.com. The sooner you reach out the better, since it lets us cross-reference your move with the crew's records while everything is still fresh. And keep the window in mind: claims need to be filed within 90 days of your move date, so do not sit on it.
Step 2: Document what happened
Good documentation is what moves a claim along quickly. Before you repair or get rid of the item, take clear, well-lit photos of the damage from a few different angles. Hold onto the item and its packing materials too, since those may be part of the review.
For a missing item, write down as much as you can: what it is, its rough size and color, and the box or room it was packed in or last seen. The more specific the detail, the faster we can track it down or account for it.
Step 3: Submit your claim
Once you have reached out, our team walks you through the official submission. That typically means a claim form where you list your move date, the items involved, and the photos and details you gathered. We will tell you exactly what we need so nothing holds up the process.
Step 4: We review and resolve it
From there, our management team takes over the review. We look at everything you have submitted, talk with the crew who handled your move, and work with you toward a fair resolution as quickly as we can. We take every claim seriously, a scuff or a missing box included, because how we handle the hard moments is what our reputation is actually built on.
A quick word on coverage
What a claim pays out depends on the protection level you chose. Every move includes basic carrier liability at $0.60 per pound per article at no charge, and if you selected Full Value Protection before your move, your claim is settled under those terms instead.
