Can I Add or Remove Items on Moving Day?
Yes. Packing is a moving target, and your inventory almost always shifts by the time the truck arrives. Maybe you sold that heavy armoire at the last minute, or found a stack of boxes in the attic you had forgotten about. Either way, we roll with it. Adding or dropping items on moving day is completely normal, and we build flexibility into how we work. It just helps to understand how those changes ripple through the day.
How adding or removing items affects your move
Changes touch two things: how long the move takes and how much fits on the truck.
Because a local move is billed by the hour, your inventory directly affects your cost, and that cuts both ways. Drop a few big pieces and you will likely finish sooner and pay less. Add twenty boxes and a couch, and the crew needs more time to wrap, carry, and load them, so the job runs a little longer. There is no penalty either way. You simply pay for the time the actual job takes. And since we never change our rate by the season or the day, the math stays predictable no matter what shifts.
The other factor is space. Our trucks are packed carefully so the load stays balanced and secure, using tiered stacking to spread the weight. If you add a lot at the last minute, the crew will re-plan the load to keep it stable, and in the rare case that everything will not fit in one trip, we will talk through a second run so nothing gets left behind.
How to keep last-minute changes smooth
A little communication is all it takes to keep a shifting inventory from slowing the day down.
If your list changes significantly, ideally a day or two before the move, give our office a quick call. A big swing in how much you are moving can change the crew size or the truck we send, and knowing ahead lets us match the right resources to the job.
Then, when the crew lead does the walkthrough on moving day, point out anything added or removed since your estimate. That lets the team plan the loading order from the first box instead of adjusting on the fly. And if you have added more than a single load can hold, tell us which items matter most, so we prioritize the essentials and sort out the logistics of a second trip if it comes to that.
Flexible by design
We have been doing this since 1982, and if four decades teaches you anything, it is that moves never go exactly as written on the estimate. We plan for that. Whether an item was on the original list or added the morning of, it gets the same care, wrapped in moving blankets and shrink wrap and loaded like everything else.
The point of hiring us is a move that bends with real life instead of fighting it. Call (773) 275-4100 or email info@wcmoving.com to plan yours, or read more in our FAQ. However your inventory changes between now and moving day, we have got it.
