Do Gated Communities Need Anything Special on Moving Day?
Do Gated Communities Need Anything Special on Moving Day?
Last updated: October 2026
Just arranged access. We arrange it before move day with your gatehouse or association, so trucks arrive expected, never improvising at the keypad.
Gated communities are common in suburbs like Kildeer, Oak Brook, and Northbrook. They're quiet, secure, and well managed. They also have a gate. A moving truck that shows up unannounced can lose time or even get turned away while everyone tries to figure out who was supposed to call the gatehouse that morning. Gated communities only cause problems when they're unplanned. Plan, and they're easy.
What arranged access means
The gatehouse knows we're coming. On the right day, at the right time.
The truck has a way in. Whether that's a guard who waves it through, a code, or an open gate.
Everyone knows the rules. Hours, routes, and where the truck can park.
What to tell us when you book
Who manages the gate. A gatehouse, a guard, a management company, or an association.
How access works. Codes, guest lists, or advance notice.
Any rules for trucks. Size limits, routes, or parking spots.
Move hours. If the association limits when moves can happen.
We'll take it from there and arrange access before move day. One less thing for you to worry about.
Association rules
Many gated communities are run by associations, and some set hours or notice requirements for moves. We confirm yours at booking and schedule inside the lines. Read are there association rules about moving days in Kildeer.
Certificates of insurance
Some gated communities and associations want a certificate of insurance from the mover. We send COIs for free, usually the same day they send their requirements. Read when will I receive the COI.
Inside the gate
Once the truck is in, the move works like any other. Floors, door frames, and stairs get protected on every move. Long driveways and big homes are planned ahead of time. Read can you move gated or bluff-side Winnetka properties.
Moving out
It works both ways.
Don't forget the other end. If you're moving out of a gated community, the gatehouse needs to know too. And if you're moving from one gated community to another, both need to be arranged.
Why calling ahead helps everyone
Gatehouse staff and association managers deal with deliveries, contractors, and visitors all day, so a moving truck that's on the list ahead of time is one less surprise in their morning and one less delay in yours. It also helps your new neighbors, who would rather hear about a big truck coming through from the association than find one idling at the entrance. A short heads-up goes a long way.
Big homes inside the gate
Many gated communities have large homes, and large homes need full crews. Read how big a crew does a Northbrook house move need.
Pricing
Gated community moves are hourly, like our other moves, with a 2-hour minimum. Arranging access is part of the job.
