Do Downtown Elmhurst Condos Have Move-In Rules?
Do Downtown Elmhurst Condos Have Move-In Rules?
Last updated: October 2026
Several buildings do, with elevator windows and COIs. We confirm your building's protocol when we book.
Downtown Elmhurst has become a popular place to live, close to shops, restaurants, and the Metra. Condo buildings there tend to be well managed, and well-managed buildings usually have rules about moves. Knowing them ahead of time keeps move day smooth for you and for your neighbors.
Common building rules
Elevator windows. Many buildings require you to reserve the elevator for your move. You arrange that with building management. Ask for a wider window if you can, since it gives the crew room to work without rushing.
Certificates of insurance. Many buildings want proof of insurance from the mover before the crew walks in.
Move hours. Some buildings only allow moves at certain times or on certain days.
Loading areas. Some have a loading area or a specific door for moves.
Elevator padding. Some buildings want their elevator protected during the move.
The certificate of insurance
We send COIs for free, usually the same day your building sends its requirements. If the building or the management company needs to be named as additional insured, we can do that too. Read when will I receive the COI.
When the window is short
If your building gives you a short elevator window, we'll assess the move and give you an accurate estimate of how long it will take. If the window isn't enough, we may recommend more movers, or a different date with a longer window. Read what if my building only allows moves on certain days.
What to ask your building
Do I need to reserve the elevator? And for how long?
What are the move hours? Weekdays only? Weekends allowed?
Do you need a COI? And what should it say?
Where should the truck park? Is there a loading area?
Then tell us what they said when you book. It helps a lot, because a crew that knows the elevator closes at four o'clock and the truck has to use the side entrance can plan the whole day around those facts instead of discovering them in the lobby.
Small condo moves
Many downtown Elmhurst moves are one- and two-bedroom condos, which tend to be quick. Read do you handle small condo moves in Elmhurst.
Protecting the building
Floors, door frames, and stairs get protected on every move, at no charge. Shared hallways get the same care as your own home. Read how do you protect brand-new floors and finishes.
Furniture that won't fit the elevator
If a big sofa or sectional won't fit the elevator, we take it apart if it comes apart. Assembly and disassembly are always included in our hourly rate. Read what if my furniture doesn't fit through the door.
Pricing
Condo moves are hourly, with a 2-hour minimum. Moving companies in the Chicago area charge at least one hour for travel.
Condo rules are covered on our Elmhurst movers page and our apartment moving service, part of our moving services.
Call (773) 275-4100 or email info@wcmoving.com, and tell us your building's rules.
