Can I Help During the Move?

We love when customers want to pitch in, and the honest answer is yes, though probably not in the way you are picturing. The most valuable help you can give has nothing to do with lifting. Your direction and your prep work do more to keep a move fast, smooth, and on budget than an extra set of hands on the couch ever could. Here is how to be genuinely helpful on moving day.

The most useful things you can do

Direct traffic. On moving day, the best role you can play is director. Tell us where each piece of furniture and each box belongs in the new place, and we carry it straight there, once. That single habit, deciding placement as things come off the truck, saves you hours of rearranging later and keeps the whole day moving.

Do the prep you want to do. Since a local move is billed by the hour, anything you handle before we arrive is time saved. Plenty of customers disassemble their own bed frames, disconnect electronics, and pack their own boxes ahead of time. The more ready you are when we pull up, the faster we start loading. And if you would rather not, that is fine too, we can do all of it.

Clear the way. Make sure walkways, driveways, and hallways are free of clutter before we arrive, so the crew can move freely with the big pieces. And if you have pets or small kids, setting them up somewhere safe and quiet away from the action keeps everyone comfortable and lets the crew work without worrying about a dog slipping out the front door.

What to leave to us

Here is the part we have to be firm about, and it is for your protection as much as ours. Please leave the heavy lifting and the loading to the crew.

Our insurance and workers' compensation cover our employees, not customers, so if you were to strain your back helping carry a dresser, you would not be covered, and we would never want that. Our movers are also trained in proper lifting technique and equipped with dollies and straps that make heavy pieces manageable and safe. For the same reasons, only our staff ride in and load the truck, so the load stays balanced and secured the way it needs to be. You hired professionals precisely so you do not have to risk your back. Prefer to be completely hands-off?

If the to-do list is starting to feel like a lot, you can hand the whole thing over. Ask about our full packing service, where our team wraps, boxes, and labels every room for you. We bring the supplies, including wardrobe and TV boxes to use on moving day, and handle the labor, so your only real job is to show up at the new place and point.
