Are My Belongings Protected During Transit?
Yes. A surprising amount of moving damage does not happen during the carrying, it happens on the road, when a poorly loaded truck lets things shift, tip, or rub against each other for miles. So we treat the inside of the truck as its own job. Everything gets wrapped, stacked, and secured to survive the drive, whether that drive is ten minutes across the neighborhood or several hours across Illinois.
How we secure the load
Getting your things onto the truck safely comes down to a few things we do the same way every time.
First, everything gets wrapped. Before a piece of furniture is loaded, it is covered in thick moving blankets, and we secure those blankets with shrink wrap so they stay put through every bump and turn instead of sliding off halfway down the block.
Then it gets loaded with a plan. Our crews are trained in tiered stacking: building the load in sections, with the heavy, sturdy pieces forming a stable base and the lighter, more fragile items riding safely on top. A truck packed this way spreads the weight evenly and leaves very little room for anything to shift.
Finally, it gets strapped in. We anchor larger items and whole sections of the load with heavy-duty straps and tie-downs, so a sudden stop or a sharp Chicago turn does not send your dresser sliding into your headboard. And for the sensitive things, electronics, mirrors, framed art, we use our wardrobe and TV boxes and, where a piece needs it, proper crating, so they ride upright and shielded instead of loose.
Backed by real coverage
Careful loading prevents the vast majority of problems, but you are also protected by coverage the whole way. Every move includes basic carrier liability at $0.60 per pound per article at no charge, and you can upgrade to Full Value Protection for high-value items. We break down exactly how each level works in our posts on liability coverage, and we are glad to help you choose during your free estimate.
Drivers who know the value of what is inside
A load is only as safe as the drive. Our drivers are trained in route planning and smooth, careful vehicle operation, so your belongings are not just sitting on a truck, they are being moved by people who treat the drive as part of the job. That matters most on a long-distance move, where your things spend hours or even days on the road before they reach the new place.
Part of the job, not an upcharge
Securing your things for transit is not an add-on we bill for. The blankets, the wrap, the straps, the careful loading, all of it is standard on every move, and we do not change any of it by the season. Safe transport is simply what a professional move includes.
Whether it is a few pieces or a whole household, your things leave your old home wrapped and secured, and arrive at the new one the same way they left. Call (773) 275-4100 or email info@wcmoving.com to talk through your move, or read more in our FAQ.
