Here's something most people don't realize until the truck is loading: how well your move goes is mostly decided before the crew ever shows up, by how your things are packed. Then the "tricky" part

Mary called some of the logistics "tricky," and she wasn't wrong. Around Western Springs and La Grange you get narrow driveways, older layouts, and the occasional tight staircase or long carry out to the truck. That's the part experience earns you. Before lifting the big pieces, the crew reads the space and works out the angles, which way the sofa turns, how the armoire clears the landing, so nothing gets forced and nothing gets scratched.

The protection was standard at both ends. Floor runners went down in the walkways, door frames got padded, and every piece of furniture was wrapped in moving blankets and shrink wrap so surfaces stayed safe and drawers stayed shut. In the truck, Mary's well-packed boxes and the wrapped furniture went in tight, interlocking layers and got strapped to the rails, so the short hop over to La Grange didn't budge a thing.
