Chicago Movers: Half the Quote, and Still the Best Crew She'd Hired

Chicago Movers: Half the Quote, and Still the Best Crew She'd Hired

Chicago Movers: Half the Quote, and Still the Best Crew She'd Hired

"I got multiple quotes that were double or more the cost Windy City quoted me, the move was extremely easy and quick, and the movers were some of the most professional and kind movers I have ever hired!!! Shoutout to Jhoni and Sergio, you guys are the best!!! 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for professional, courteous, efficient, and well-priced moving in Chicago!!!" — Kelly Hein

There's an assumption baked into how most people shop for movers: the low quote is the trap. Pick the cheapest company and you'll pay for it in scratched furniture and a crew that treats the day like a chore. So Kelly Hein's review describes something that isn't supposed to happen. She gathered multiple quotes, ours came in at half the others or less, and the crew that showed up, Jhoni and Sergio, turned out to be, in her words, some of the most professional and kind movers she has ever hired.

That's not a fluke, and it's worth explaining why, because the price-quality assumption deserves a fair answer, not just a counterexample.

Why the lower quote isn't the corner-cut

Our quotes come in lower for boring structural reasons, not because anything's missing from the move. There's no national brand's overhead riding on your bill, no broker taking a cut before a truck is even assigned, and no marketing machine to feed. The quote is a local company's honest read of the hours your move takes, priced at a local company's rates. And because the crews work efficiently, the hours themselves stay lean: a move that's "extremely easy and quick," as Kelly's was, is a move that costs less by simply taking less time. The savings come out of waste, not out of the wrapping.

The proof is in what her cheaper move included: the same blankets and shrink wrap on every piece, the same floor and doorway protection, and furniture assembly at the new place, taking apart what needed it and rebuilding it where it belonged. Nothing about the lower number was visible on moving day except the crew being good at their jobs.

The crew is the product

Kelly's shoutout names two people, and that's fitting, because whatever the quote says, the move you actually experience is Jhoni and Sergio carrying your things up Mozart Street. Kind and professional aren't line items we could have removed to hit a price. They're just who we send. Her move ran from West Montrose Avenue to North Mozart Street, through the blocks just west of Lincoln Square, and the crew treated a well-priced Tuesday move exactly the way they'd treat anything: like it mattered.

So here's the honest takeaway for anyone comparing quotes right now: a suspiciously low number from a company you can't verify is still a red flag. But a lower number from a licensed local company with hundreds of reviews describing crews like Jhoni and Sergio isn't a trap. It's just what moving costs when nobody's skimming off the top.

One practical tip for making your comparison fair: when quotes differ this much, confirm each one covers the same day, the crew size, the materials, the travel time, whether assembly is included. Ours spells all of it out, so the number you compare is the number you'd pay.

Thanks, Kelly, for all three exclamation points. The guys earned them.

If you're collecting quotes, add ours to the pile and compare freely: local moving seven days a week, furniture assembly included in how we work. Call (773) 275-4100, email info@wcmoving.com, or start with a free quote.

I had an excellent move out experience with Windy City movers. I had a two bedroom apartment that also had a piano, and I lived on the top third floor without an elevator.
