Protecting a home built to last

A lot of these bungalows are close to a century old, with original hardwood and trim that people rightly care about. So before a box moved, the crew laid floor runners along every path they'd walk and padded the door frames and those tight corner turns. The point is simple: a house that's stood for ninety years shouldn't pick up its first scuff on moving day. When we left, the only change to Emily's old place was that it was empty.

The careful part you don't see

Every piece of furniture went into moving blankets and shrink wrap before it left the house, which cushions the surfaces and keeps drawers and cabinet doors shut on the way out. In the truck, the load went in tight, packed in interlocking tiers with no loose gaps, then strapped to the rails so the drive across the city couldn't shift a thing. Emily's belongings left a Portage Park bungalow and reached the new place in exactly the same shape.
