Notice the order of events in Beka Lepak's review. Before she gets to the smoothest move she's ever done, before the crew flying up the stairs, she mentions something that happened weeks earlier: we "asked tons of questions upfront for the estimate." She lists it like a compliment, and it is one, but it's also the cause of everything that follows. The smooth move didn't start on moving day. It started in that conversation.

Questions are how a move gets planned

Every question at estimate time removes a surprise on moving day. How many stairs, and what kind? What's the parking like on North Oak Park Avenue, and what about West Van Buren at the Chicago end? What's the biggest piece? What's fragile? How many boxes, really? A company that quotes your move in ninety seconds isn't being efficient; it's deferring all of those questions to the day itself, when every answer costs time on the clock and improvisation on your stairs.
