Chicago to Empire, Michigan Movers: A Straightforward Interstate Move
“"Excellent experience with Windy City Movers! Very hardworking and trustworthy staff." — Thomas Durkin”
“"This company and crew were excellent each step of the move. Highly recommend." — Megan Durkin”
Thomas and Megan Durkin hired us to move their household from Chicago to Empire, Michigan. If you don't know Empire, it's a small village up in the northwest corner of the Lower Peninsula, right at the edge of the Sleeping Bear Dunes. It's about a five-hour drive from Chicago, up around the bottom of Lake Michigan and north along the coast. People make this kind of move all the time, out of the city, up to the lake, and most of the job is the same as any other move. The distance just means you plan it a little more carefully.
Here's how it went.
Before the truck
An interstate move is priced by the size of the load and the distance, so the first step was simply agreeing on what was going. Once that was set, the Durkins had their number, and the number didn't change.
Loading day in Chicago
The crew arrived, protected the floors and doorways, and started working through the house. The bigger furniture came apart first. Beds, tables, and anything else that travels better in pieces got disassembled, and the hardware went into labeled bags taped to the piece it belongs to. That's routine for us, but it matters twice as much on a long move: furniture that's broken down packs tighter, rides lower, and doesn't rock around for three hundred miles.
Everything got wrapped in moving blankets and shrink wrap, carried out, and loaded in tight, strapped layers. Small furniture, boxes, the everyday contents of a household. Nothing unusual, and that's the point. A good interstate move looks a lot like a good local move at both ends. The middle is just longer.
The drive and the delivery
The truck made the run up to Empire, and the crew unloaded the same day's work in reverse: everything carried in, furniture reassembled, beds put back together, boxes set where they belonged. The Durkins checked their things, and everything had arrived the way it left.
Their words above say it better than we could. Not a dramatic rescue, not a complicated story. Just a move where each step got done properly and nobody had to worry.
If you're leaving the city for the lake
Chicago-to-Michigan moves are steady work for us, the city on one end, a small town or a lake house on the other. If that's the move in front of you, a few things are worth knowing. The price is set by load size and distance, with a free estimate up front. Furniture disassembly and reassembly is part of how we work, not an add-on you have to arrange. And the same crew standards apply at both ends, whether the destination is a high-rise in Chicago or a quiet street in Empire.
Thanks to Thomas and Megan for trusting us with the trip, and for taking the time to say so afterward.
