Chicago to Brooklyn Movers: Big-City Craft at Both Ends

Chicago to Brooklyn Movers: Big-City Craft at Both Ends

"We used Windy City Movers for a cross country move from Chicago to New York. Not only was the service $2000 cheaper than other moving companies, but Shaq and Ankh were fantastic, super communicative, and extremely thorough. All our furniture was wrapped and arrived without any damage. Could not recommend more!" — Michael Shen

Most long-distance moves trade one kind of place for another: city to suburb, suburb to small town. Michael Shen's went city to city, and not just any pair. His move ran from North Bosworth Avenue, in the dense walk-up blocks where West Town meets Wicker Park, straight to Brooklyn, New York, which is to say from one of America's tightest moving environments to the other one. Roughly eight hundred miles of interstate in the middle, and the hard parts waiting at both ends.

Why city-to-city is its own animal

A crew delivering to a Michigan lake town parks in a driveway. A crew delivering to Brooklyn is negotiating narrow one-ways, hunting a legal place to put a truck, and often carrying everything up the stairs of a building older than the ones it left in Chicago. Here's the quiet advantage Michael's move had: for a Chicago crew, none of that is exotic. Tight streets, walk-ups, no place to park, buildings with opinions, that's Tuesday here. The craft that gets a couch out of a Wicker Park three-flat is precisely the craft that gets it into a Brooklyn brownstone block. We just did it with a state line and most of two states in between.

Thorough is the word that matters

Michael called Shaq and Ankh "extremely thorough," and on this kind of move, thorough is the load-bearing quality. Every piece of furniture wrapped, not most, every piece, because eight hundred miles gives any unwrapped corner eight hundred miles of chances. The truck packed so the density of the load matches the density of the route: tight, strapped, and built to come off in a Brooklyn loading situation where the truck may not get to sit for long. "Arrived without any damage" is the sentence that whole discipline exists to produce, and it's the only grade an interstate move really gets.

If your destination is New York or another dense city, the details that matter most are the ones about the far end: the building type, the stairs or elevator, what the block's parking actually allows, and any certificate of insurance the building there requires. Tell us early and the delivery day gets planned like a local move in that city, because that's effectively what it is.

The communication mattered for the same reason. A city-to-city move has more coordination in it, timing at both ends, building requirements, the delivery-day plan, and Shaq and Ankh kept Michael in the loop the whole way, so a complicated route never felt complicated from the customer's side.

The price, briefly

Michael's review compares our quote to the others he gathered, and we'll let his numbers speak for themselves up there. We'll only add the standing explanation: long-distance pricing here is the size of the load and the distance of the trip, quoted free and non-binding, with nobody's national overhead riding along.

Thanks, Michael, and enjoy Brooklyn. Your furniture already knows how to live there.

If your own move runs from Chicago to New York, or between any two cities where the blocks are tight and the stairs are real, our long-distance crews speak both languages. Call (773) 275-4100, email info@wcmoving.com, or start with a free quote.
