A wine rack that's been filling up for a decade. None of it museum-grade, all of it worth moving carefully, and all of it well within what a good moving crew handles every week. Here's how, honestly, and where we'd steer you to a specialist instead.

Before the categories, a piece of plain advice we give often: at the estimate, mention the pieces you're most protective of by name. It shapes the materials we bring, the crew size, and where those items sit in the load. Nothing gets overlooked when you've said it out loud.

Wine collections

For most home wine collections, a hundred bottles, a nice rack, a mix of everyday and special-occasion bottles, careful boxing and short transit distances are what protects them. Wrapped bottles in dishpack boxes with dividers, boxes marked fragile and this side up, loaded on the truck where nothing gets stacked on top of them, and delivered promptly to the new home. That's what our crews do, and for a typical home collection it works fine.

Two honest limits worth naming:

We don't run refrigerated transport. Our trucks aren't climate-controlled while driving, so wine spends the trip at whatever the ambient temperature is. On a short local move on a mild day, that's fine. In deep summer or deep winter, on a longer trip, the ambient can be harder on wine than most owners realize.

For a serious wine cellar, you want a specialist. If your collection includes bottles worth thousands each, or you've invested in the collection as an asset, a specialized wine-transport company with refrigerated trucks and vibration control is the right call, not us. That's a genuine service and it's worth its price. Same principle we apply to serious art: knowing the line is part of doing the work well.

Wardrobes and clothing

Here's an area where our standard service is genuinely a good fit for higher-end clothing, because the tool that makes wardrobe moving easy is one we bring on every move: the wardrobe box.

Wardrobe boxes are tall cartons with a hanging bar inside. Your clothes go directly from your closet rod onto the wardrobe box's bar, still on their hangers, and travel that way. For nicer clothes, this is the ideal method: no folding creases in tailored garments, no crumpling of delicate fabrics, no piling of coats and dresses into loose bags. On moving day these are free to use, brought by the crew and collected before we leave, or purchasable to keep from our moving supplies.

For particularly delicate pieces, gowns, leather jackets, fur, vintage garments, a garment bag over each piece on the hanger is a smart extra step, and one you can do yourself the day before. Sturdy tissue paper between folded delicate pieces (if any need to be folded) helps with creasing.

Shoes, bags, and accessories travel best in their original dust bags where possible, otherwise wrapped individually so nothing rubs during the drive.

Framed art and mirrors

We covered this in depth in our fine art moving guide, so the short version here: framed paintings, prints, mirrors, and photographs travel wrapped in acid-free paper, with padded corner protection, in mirror cartons sized to the piece. Anything behind glass gets the tape-X on the glass for fragment containment. Everything travels upright on the truck, braced against the wall, never flat, never stacked on. And placed in the room at the new home, not hung, wall-hanging is picture-hanger work.

Antiques and heirlooms

Antique furniture is one of our specialties, an area where we're genuinely well-suited. The care is the same craft applied to other furniture, just with more of it: moving blankets on every surface, extra padding at joints and legs, shrink wrap only over the blankets and never against the finish, hardware bagged and taped to whatever it came off. Antique pieces disassembled where possible so nothing rides awkwardly, and carried by hands trained to spot where an old joint might complain.

Our antique furniture moving crews handle the pieces most families are most worried about, the grandfather clock, the marble-topped console, the mahogany dining table, the piano the family's had since the 1950s. What they don't do is refinish or restore; if a piece has finish damage or joint weakness before the move, we'll note it and treat it with extra care, but we don't repair.

Home protection during a high-value move

This isn't higher-value clothing or art, but it's worth naming: the home itself is often the most valuable thing on the day. Floor runners along the carry paths, doorway padding, blanket-wrap on furniture with hardware that could touch walls, all standard on every move. On a home with unusually delicate finishes, marble, refinished hardwood, plaster walls, custom millwork, tell us at the estimate; we'll add extras and slow the pace on the tightest corners. There's no premium for that; it's how the crew works when the day calls for it.
